Red River Service Corporation to Take Over Local Garbage Company
in Rapid City, SD

"FGS customers need not have a moment's concern about their service," Red River President James A. Smith commented, referring to the current legal difficulties faced by FGS. "We will honor all current contracts and follow current collection schedules. The transition from FGS to Red River will be smooth and service will not be interrupted. Red River will provide the same high quality level of service to its customers in Rapid City as we do in Nashville, Tennessee, and Fort Polk, Louisiana and Council Bluffs, Iowa."

Red River is an established, national solid waste management company with current contracts in six states, serving over 200,000 customers daily. Red River's customers include the Department of Defense (DoD) and county and city government entities. In addition to the three states mentioned above, other contract locations are in Mississippi, Texas and Kentucky.

"There isn't a contract I haven't been proud of," Smith said, "but one of the real standouts was our contract at Ellsworth AFB. I spent several weeks in Rapid City overseeing the transition and contract start-up. It was a good trip and I loved every minute!" Smith points to the positive experience he had in the Rapid City area as one of the things that is so attractive about this acquisition.

He went on to explain that due to minority business set aside restrictions, the company was unable to compete on subsequent garbage contracts at Ellsworth. Other contracts Smith mentioned include prior contracts at Andersen AFB in Guam, several DoD contracts in Hawaii and a contract at Minot AFB. Smith smiled as he said, "I'm glad I wasn't the one who personally started the Minot contract – that was also a January 1 start and it was in the midst of one Minot's biggest snow storms in years."
