Citizens of Del Rio, on December 30, 2013 the Mayor and City Council awarded Red River Waste Solutions LP a new 7 year contract to provide solid waste management and recycling collection services for all residential, commercial and industrial roll off customers in Del Rio. We are extremely excited about our continued partnership with the community and we look forward to implementing a citywide "Single-Stream" curbside recycling service that will begin March 31, 2014. In addition, we will be offering a cardboard collection service for the commercial businesses of Del Rio, to help reduce the overall cost of commercial waste collection services.
There are no changes to the existing collection schedule for residential or commercial solid waste, bulk waste, yard waste and brush collection services. Effective February 1, 2014 brush collection services will be performed exclusively by the City of Del Rio’s Department of Public Health.
Residential Solid Waste, Yard Waste and Bulk Waste Collection
Each residential customer who has an active water account will continue to use the existing 95-gallon roll cart. The added benefits to the new solid waste collection is that Red River will collect all yard Waste (bagged grass and leaves) and bulk waste placed next to the cart each week. Remember, the City will collect the brush with grapple trucks and Red River will collect bagged yard waste.
Important information to keep in mind to avoid residential service interruptions:
Residential Brush Collection
Brush collection will be provided by the City of Del Rio to all residential customers who have an active water account and live within the City limits. The City will maintain the current brush collection schedule that is in place, any changes to this schedule will be made by the City.
Residential Recycling Collection
Beginning on March 31, 2014, Red River will be implementing the City’s first residential curbside "Single Stream" recycling service to the citizens of Del Rio. This new service will allow the community the option to reduce the amount of solid waste that is disposed of at the City landfill, preserving valuable airspace at the landfill for many generations to come.
This service will be provided every other week (EOW) utilizing 18 gallon recycling bins provided by Red River. The amount of recyclables that can be set-out is unlimited; however, you must use your Red River recycling bin to properly contain your recyclables. Additional bins are available by contacting the City at 774-8501.
What is Single Stream recycling? It is basically an industry term that means, "all acceptable recyclables can be co-mingled into the same container with no sorting of the material by the customer." The sorting and processing of the collected recyclables will occur at a recycling center licensed to accept the collected recycling commodities.
The Single Stream recyclables that will be accepted in the new service are listed below:

Commercial Recycling Collection
Beginning on March 31, 2014, Red River will be implementing the City’s first commercial cardboard recycling service to the commercial business of Del Rio. This new service will allow the community the option to reduce the amount of solid waste that is disposed of at the City landfill, preserving valuable airspace at the landfill for many generations to come. Many businesses in Del Rio dispose of cardboard in their solid waste dumpsters, this new service will allow for additional capacity for solid waste with the potential to reduce the frequency of the solid waste collection service.

Landfill Operation and Management
In addition to the collection services provided above Red River will also manage and operate the City's landfill located at 1897 Railway Road. The landfill will be open Monday thru Friday from 6:00 am to 4:45 pm and on Saturday from 6:00 am to 1:45 pm. The City landfill is a valuable resource in which we need to work together in preserving its useful life. Red River will operate this facility in strict accordance with local, State and Federal guidelines. The City will oversee the daily landfill operation, provide engineering assistance, management and operation of the scale house and perform brush grinding operations at the landfill.
Residents of the City of Del Rio can use the City landfill free of charge to deposit household solid waste and brush only. Customers must provide a valid photo I.D. to show proof of residency. All commercial customers will be charged for landfill use, regardless of residency. (Note: Delinquent water accounts must be brought current prior to depositing items in landfill.)
